Ladies/Mens Comps 2021

Well done to Our Heron League Runners Up Finals Day. Excellent result.

Well done to all the Whitstable Ladies efforts who played in the Regional Semi Finals of the Top Ten Ladies against Lenham on Sunday 1st August. We won 2 games and lost 2 games so it came down to shot difference and Lenham won it by 15 shots. Lenham are a very strong team and we should be proud of ourselves for getting this far. In the team was: Maggie Porter, Maggie Dellard, Chris Murphy, Penny Smith, Barbara McGillicuddy, Daphne Ellinor, Joan Davey, Linda Lane, Patricia Vaz, Rosemary Field and Tracy Hamilton.

Also a big well done to Gareth Porter, Don Minnett, Nick Newman, Michael Cunningham, Norman Crawford, Mike Amura, Tom Attaway and John Atkinson winning the Millennium Cup on Sunday 25th July.

The Stewards Cup was played this year on Sunday 19 September between six teams representing the Bar Stewards and another six playing on behalf of the rest of the Club.

The Stewards won on only two rinks but they somehow gained more shots, 92-87 and so won the cup.

Michael Amura with Linda Lane, John Taylor and Christine Murphy for the Stewards were up against Bob Davey with Joan Davey, Norman Tilley and Philip Andersen for the Club and they took an early lead, 5-2 on the fourth end.  They were caught 7-all on the seventh and by the tenth were 7-10 down.  From this point they ‘found the green,’ levelling at 10-all on the next end and going on to win at  20-13.

Steward Michael Cunningham with Angela Amura, Andrea Lippett and Bob Webb were opposed by Brian Watson with Sue Quilter, Irene Fairall and Nicholas Newman.  The Stewards took the first seven ends, 12-nil and led 16-3 on the twelfth.  The Club side then got a ‘five’ on the next end, (lucky thirteen), to be 16-8 down, but scored only one shot more; the Stewards won 21-9.

Nelson Hamilton with Paul Fincham, Patricia Vaz and H. Cusnon(?), for the Stewards, after only five ends led 9-1 against Club team Neil Shaw with Fred Goodger, and Norman and Janette Crawford.  The Stewards kept scoring until the twelfth end when they led 13-6 thereafter they failed to score again, were overtaken on the seventeenth at 13-14, and then lost 13-15.

Tracy Hamilton led a triples Stewards team with Louise Fairburn and David Lane versus a Club team skipped by Rosemary Field with Ann Malloy and Ronald Vaz.  The Stewards lost the first two ends but got a ‘seven’ on the fourth to lead 8-2 but by the ninth they had been caught 9-10.  They were level on the eleventh at 11-all and were leading again on the fourteenth, 14-12 when the Club got a ‘six’ on the fifteenth and so the stewards lost 16-19.

Brian Reynolds skipped a Stewards rink with Jo Bridges, Sally White and Peter Boeg challenging a Club team, Keith Patching with Ann French, Gerry White and Rex Beard and they began poorly going 1-6 do - wn on the sixth end and they continued in second place throughout the game,  eventually losing to the Club at 12-16.

Don Minnett skipping for the Stewards with M Sergeant, Brian Gentle and Yvonne Taylor was up against Trevor Epps with Jean Harman, J Noble and Barbara McGillicuddy bowling for the Club.  The Stewards lost the first three ends 0-5 and continued to follow behind the Club team.  Their closest approach was on the halfway ninth at 6-7 but two ends later they were 6-11 adrift and finally they lost 10-15.
